Description: Week-long sessions starting July 8th-August 4th
Summer Youth Programs and Mind Trekker Summer Camps offer over 50 explorations each summer to discover and learn about various fields through hands-on laboratory, classroom and field experiences. An exploration is an intensive week-long look into a particular field or area of interest. We offer seven different categories of explorations including Leadership, Business, Computing, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Outdoor and Environmental Studies, and Science and Technology. In your exploration you may learn new software, rappel down a cliff, fly an airplane, cast molten metal, build a robot, produce a film, or backpack on an island...the opportunities are endless! Explorations are lead by Michigan Tech faculty members, graduate students, and local specialists. Enrollment is open until classes are full. Classes are limited to 20 or less students. Fee for commuter students is $450 and for residential students is $795 per exploration.

Program: Michigan Technological University Summer Scholarship Programs: Houghton, Michigan
Description: Women in Engineering (WIE), June 24-20 and Engineering Scholars Program (ESP), July 8-14 are weeklong investigations of engineering careers in areas such as mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, chemical, biomedical, civil, geological, materials, and related disciplines. This program is a highly competitive scholarship program which provides a chance for traditionally underrepresented high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to investigate careers in engineering and science. Students participate in engineering sessions, group projects and special topic presentations. In addition, students have opportunities throughout the week to interact with industry role models and a diverse group of peers from all over the country and world. Applications are due by May 1st. National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI), July 15-28 is a two week program that allows student to explore today’s transportation industry. Highlights include touring the Mackinac Bridge Authority, visiting the Soo Locks, and a trip to Isle Royale. This program is a highly competitive program which provides high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors the opportunity to investigate careers and educational paths supporting today’s transportation industry and future needs. Applications are due May 1st. Rail and Intermodal Transportation (July 8-14) is a weeklong investigation designed to create awareness and stimulate interest in the area of rail and intermodal transportation. You will learn about and ride trains, enjoy technical tours to rail and intermodal facilities in Marquette and Duluth, and work in teams to complete group projects.

Program: University of Michigan Math and Science Scholars Summer Program for High School Students: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Description: MMSS features small 15-student classes taught by University of Michigan professors, as well as other outstanding instructors from around the world. The small class size allows the student to receive a deeper exposure to a particular subject and to evaluate the University of Michigan not only as a summer program, but also as a place for future studies. Two 2-week sessions are offered; students are given the opportunity to attend one or both.

Description: Intended for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors seriously considering engineering as their career choice, this program is designed to give in-depth experiences in engineering majors. Each day students will learn about a major and spend time with an engineering faculty member, a graduate student, an undergraduate student engaged in short lecture, demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team-based problem solving, and tours. Presentations by the Honors College, Admissions Office, Study Abroad and The Center (Co-op/Internship and Undergraduate Research Opportunities) as well as tours of engineering research facilities will be conducted.

Program: Michigan State University CSI Forensic Summer Science Program for High School Students: East Lansing, Michigan
Description: If you have a strong interest in science, check out the CSI Forensic Science Program @MSU, a week-long day or residential program. The program is designed for high-achieving students who will be introduced to all areas of Forensics, while working with experts in the field. Using a variety of lectures, labs, and on-site mock crime scenes, students will learn how real Crime Scene Investigators use science, creativity, and investigation skills to solve all types of crimes.
