Program: Miami University Juniors Scholars Program: Oxford, Ohio
Description:  This program provides students with the opportunity to take college-level courses at Miami University.  Students can choose courses from a variety of subject areas.  Students may be able to gain admission into the university through their performance in these courses.
Participants:  Students will have completed the 11th grade by the summer.

Program: Ohio University Summer Honors Academy:  Athens, Ohio
Description: The 5-week Honors Academy participants enroll and earn college credit in 2-3 selected University courses alongside University students.  Courses include a wide range of disciplines, and students have their choice.  Residential and commuter options; close supervision and support provided by mentors from the University’s Honors Tutorial College and residence life staff.  Students explore Ohio University resources and major options, participate in service learning projects, and enjoy structured extracurricular activities.
Participants: Completed 9th, 10th, or 11th grade; earned 3.25+ gpa on a 4.0 scale.

Program: OHIO Sports Business Academy at Ohio University: Athens, Ohio
Description: The OHIO Sports Business Academy will take place July 18-25, 2010, and focuses on establishing a basis for students to begin their journey into the ever-changing world of sports. Program highlights:

  • Jim Kahler, former Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) and Rockers (WNBA)
  • Bob DiBiasio, Vice President of Public Relations for the Cleveland Indians (MLB)Amy Huchthausen, Director of Academic & Membership Affairs at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
  • Tricia Turley, Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services at Ohio University
  • Professors from Ohio University, the oldest sports administration program in the country
  • Cincinnati Reds field trip

Program: The Ross Mathematics Program at Ohio State University:  Columbus, Ohio
Description:  This is an intensive program designed for students to explore various concepts in mathematics and to promote mathematical thinking.
Participants:  Students from ages 14-18.

ProgramMechanisms of Human Health and Disease, Columbus, Ohio
Description:  Mechanisms of Human Heath and Disease is a fast-paced, in-depth program designed to challenge the serious science student. Students in the Mechanisms program investigate cancer and other disease topics with lectures from research experts. At the final class, students present their research paper to friends, family, teachers and researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Participants:  This program  is designed for incoming seniors. However, sophmores and juniors who meet the prerequisites will be considered.

ProgramAcademic Camps at Cedarville University:  Cedarville, Ohio
Description:  Cedarville University has a variety of special interest summer programs available.  Programs include athletic training, criminal justice, debate, engineering, music, nursing, premed, social work, and writing.

Description:  The Oberlin Conservatory of Music offers a variety of music programs in the summer for students.

Program: Oberlin Summer Music Credo Program:  Oberlin, Ohio
Description:  The Credo Program is an intensive chamber music program for exceptional string students.  Students receive extensive daily coaching and mentoring from faculty members.  The Credo Program includes music study, service, and performance.
Participants:  Age 12 – High school students.

Description:  This program provides students with the opportunity to build, enhance, and expand their leadership skills.  Students have the opportunity to listen to motivational speakers and to participate in hands-on leadership building activities.

Program: Martin Essex School: Columbus, Ohio
Description:  This is a week long school at the Ohio State University that offers a very high level instructional experience.  It is a very competitive program that provides excellent learning opportunities.
Participants:   Students apply as Juniors and school districts submit applicants to a committee who choose 70 students to participate in the program.

Ohio Symposium on Leadership and Politics:  Junior Statesmen Program
Description: 
The Ohio Symposium on Leadership and Politics is part of the Junior Statesmen Summer Programs.  These programs are designed for students interested in taking a behind-the-scenes look at leadership and politics in state or local government.

Program:  Sleuths Summer Science Program at Ohio Wesleyan University: Delaware, Ohio
Description:  The Sleuths Summer Science Program is a one-week summer residential camp for students interested in the sciences: biology, chemistry, geology, physics, and mathematics.  Students have the opportunity to interact with professors, to participate in hands-on scientific activities and to learn about career fields in science.
Participants:  Rising high school juniors and seniors.

Program:  Stone Laboratory Summer Science Opportunities:  Lake Erie, Ohio
Description:  The Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory Summer Program enables students to gain practical experience in the field of science during the summer. The Stone Lab Program provides students with the opportunity to take interesting science related courses and participate in hands-on science activities at its Lake Erie location.  Students can take courses such as the introduction to aquatic biology, the introduction to the study of birds, and field based introduction to oceanography.  Students may also be able to earn course credits for these courses.
Participants:  To participate in this program, students are required to have completed the 10th grade, be at least 15 years old, and have completed at least one high school biology course.

ProgramNational Computer Camps:  The camps are held at Fairfield University, Oglethorpe University, Notre Dame College (in Cleveland), and Manhattan College.
Description:  This program provides students with excellent opportunities to learn about various areas in the field of computer technology.  Courses are available in video game design, digital video production, webpage design, computer languages, software applications, preparation for the network + certification exam, and preparation for the A+ certification exam.
Participants: Students ages 8-18.

Description:  A three-week program (June 29-July 18) of advanced study for academically talented students held in partnership with Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development.  2008 Courses:  Algebra I/Algebra II / Geometry (self-paced), Creative Writing, Forensic Science, Persuasion and Debate:  Globalization, Robotics.

Program:  Ohio Summer Honors Institutes, various universities in Ohio
Description: 
Participating students are provided with the opportunities to explore exciting topics and career options as well as to interact with peers.  The Summer Honors Institutes are held at various universities around Ohio, where students can engage in the in-depth study of high interest topics such as veterinary medicine, sports medicine, the field of business, the field of medicine, the field of law, game programming and simulation, black and white photography, and creative writing. 
Participants:  To attend an Ohio Summer Honors Institute, students are required to meet the following eligibility requirements:  reside in Ohio, be enrolled in the 9th or 10th grade, and be identified as gifted in a recognized area (note:  some Institutes may have other specific qualifications).
